Volunteer run charities we are supporting

Rural Fire Service

Rural Fire Service

Rural Fire Service

The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is the world's largest volunteer fire service. Their members provide fire and emergency services to approximately 95 percent of NSW.

Blaze Aid

Rural Fire Service

Rural Fire Service

BlazeAid  is a volunteer-based organisation that works with families and

individuals in rural Australia after natural disasters such as fires,

cyclones and floods. Working alongside the rural families, our

volunteers help to rebuild fences and other structures that have been

damaged or destroyed.

Equally important, volunteers also help to lift the spirits of people

who are often facing their second or third flood event after years of

drought, or devastating losses through bushfires. BlazeAid volunteers

work in a disaster-affected area for many months, not only helping

individuals and families, but also helping rebuild the local

Communities.

Port Macquarie Koala Hospital

WIRES has been rescuing and caring for wildlife for over 30 years and is the largest wildlife rescue organisation in Australia. WIRES currently has over 2,600 volunteers in 28 NSW branches involved in the rescue and care of wildlife and we have a dedicated Rescue Office that operates 365 days a year assisting the community to help native animals in distress.

Port Macquarie Koala Hospital

The Koala Hospital established in 1973 is an activity of the Koala Conservation Australia Incorporated - a Not-for-Profit Organisation which is recognised world-wide as a peak body which participates in forums for debate on significant policy issues and plays a significant leadership role in research, providing advice and information to Universities and Governments regulating change.

The work of the Koala Hospital is supervised and carried out by 4 paid staff including the Clinical Director, Assistant Clinical Director, Administration Manager and Leaf Collectors along with about 140 volunteers.

The 11 member KCA Management Committee (board) are volunteers and meet monthly to oversee the organisation and plan the future direction for the Koala Hospital.  Most committee members hold a coordinating role at the Koala Hospital; other important ancillary work such as fundraising, yard duties, rescues, home care, tree planting and maintenance etc. is done by the valuable volunteers without whom the hospital could not survive.

Kangaroo Island Wildlife Fund

The Wildlife Victoria Service receives notifications from members of the public via our emergency phone and online reporting system.  We receive about 80,000 requests for help a year and help over 50,000 animals. When a member of the public contacts us about a sick, injured or orphaned animal, our Emergency Response Operators provide advice to help the caller manage the situation appropriately, and when necessary, arranges for a trained volunteer to attend.

Kangaroo Island Wildlife Fund

The Kangaroo Island Koala Rescue Centre is a centre initially set up to care for and treat the koalas and wildlife injured in the devastating bushfires on Kangaroo Island in 2019/2020. Looking into the future the centre will continue to treat, house and rehabilitate those animals as well as rescue and rehabilitate wildlife on Kangaroo Island for years to come.

Landcare Bushfire and Natural Disaster Relief Fund

Landcare provides early response, an existing and immediate face-to-face network, and are actively caring for their local areas. Early response measures include: telephone check-ups to people in their community; assisting with the clean-up and restoration; replacing fencing and caring for stock and native animals.

Beyond the immediate aftermath of natural disasters, Landcare groups also provide a social hub, including bringing people together, and running workshops with mental health experts to talk to group members directly.

Fire Relief Run

Landcare Bushfire and Natural Disaster Relief Fund

A mixed bunch of big hearted characters providing convoy relief to impacted towns.

We started off with one Ute running supplies to the Southern Highlands RFs and relief centres on that wild first week of 2020 to where we are now with supplies , tools , essential items and a priceless amount of hope, love and smiles to our new friends and family on the far south coast . Beyond the immediate aftermath of natural disasters, Landcare groups also provide a social hub, including bringing people together, and running workshops with mental health experts to talk to group members directly.

The story of RISE exhibition

20 years of friendship and throwing art at walls.

The idea to do something started with Luca and Matty having a beer to help out an old friend and Refill collaborator Andy Howell whose home burnt down in California, taking with it some amazing pieces of art from Banksy, Keith Haring and pretty much every artist you can think of. Not to mention Andy's lifetime of work as well. We were going to do a comeback issue of Refill

with proceeds going to Andy. And we still will.

But then the Australian bushfires started.

Breathing in the smoke day in and day out, feeling helpless, we were trying to think of what to do.

Sometimes it can feel like it's all too much. But like every problem ever solved in the world, creativity is always the answer.

We reached out to our community and told them the idea; create art using charcoal from the bush fires as the medium. We had more artists put their hands up to help than we had wall space. A huge thank you to each and every one of the artists who have hit this challenge with such inspiring creativity and craft that every time we receive a piece, we get more and more excited.

Just like fire doesn't discriminate, the art will be democratically hung. Living legends next to up and coming geniuses.

And so, with the art under our arms we reached out to our great partners to help. And because of them - M&C Saatchi, Google, NRMA Insurance, and Mastercard, we were able to create a show. We cannot thank them enough for their support in every way you can imagine, including but not limited to the understanding when leaving a trail of burnt coal pieces through the hallways of the Google office, or keeping the creative talents of M&C Saatchi up late into the night or for when we really needed help finding that support with NRMA Insurance, and Mastercard who are helping us collect the money.

A big thanks to Hawkes Brewing Co, from which 100% of the beer sales on the night will donated to Bob Hawkes chosen charity partner, Landcare Australia, Future Classic for giving us some sweet, sweet beats, and Mike Bennie for curating a wine list from fire affected vineyards where funds will go straight back to those areas.

There is a lot of work that goes into a show like this that you can't really see. Stu and the team from Alfred, who put their hands up so quickly to help out it nearly knocked us out – are deftly producing the show at Carriageworks.  As well as securing the venue, they’ve brought along their friends who are also donating their time, products and services:

Tri Point have helped enormously with the rigging. Innovative with their legendary projection, sound and staging gear. Chameleon Touring Systems have provided lighting. Pre Set have built the art-walls like magicians. Sweet & Chilli for their top-notch bar services, and Merivale for their food prowess and bar support. Thanks to Tanqueray, Johnnie Walker, Seedlip, and Fever Tree, for keeping us hydrated.  Love Police have taken care of the limited-edition merchandise, and Page 38 have helped with their dope printing. Big ups to Doctor Cooper who has created the amazing floral sculpture. And nice one Crossguard for keeping everyone safe with their silky security skills.

One last very important character in this story. Anna Hunt, who stupidly said "is there anything I can do to help?"

You legend, thanks for everything you have done to make this show happen.

We hope the artists' work inspires you.

We hope that you think of something you could do to help.

And we hope we raise a shitload of money for all of these volunteer run organisations that have inspired us.

Andy Howell, despite everything, is still generous enough to be a contributing artist in this show.

We hope everyone will find it in their hearts to be generous too :)
